The past couple weeks have been filled with serving the locals, praying over families, and evangelizing in the streets. I have had the opportunity to teach the women on staff how to cut hair, as well as play volleyball with them and work on the Tamarindo Project (a business started for the women in Nicaragua to provide jobs). This has all been so edifying for my heart and soul and I am so thankful for how good God is!

Between the lines of the weekday outreaches, I have also found a lot of spiritual rest in this season, which is something that I am not used to. A large part of my life the past couple of years have been enveloped in the busyness of everyday life, captivated by American culture. During this period of my life, I often found it very hard to spend intentional time with the Lord. I found myself so consumed with everyone else’s expectations, as well as my own, that I pushed away the one source of life and giver of peace.

One thing that my team has continually talked about the past couple of weeks is the importance of filling up your spiritual cup, and the problem with the “work hard play hard” mindset that a lot of people adhere to, is that eventually your cup will run out.

As believers, we are meant to be serving with an overflow. The bible says: “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Psalm 23:5-6

When we sit with the Father and intentionally seek Him and read his word, we allow Him to fill our cup up and work in and through our lives. It’s really hard to have a relationship with someone when you aren’t willing to spend time or talk with them, and that includes our relationship with God. So, I encourage you to intentionally seek him this week, whether that’s when you’re driving, or you’re at work, or spending time with family/friends—or whatever that looks like for you—and I promise you that He will show up. God isn’t limited to our schedule, but we have to be willing to let Him be apart of it.

  3. This is incredible! You are a brilliant communicator, and I love how you so specifically applied Scripture to this season. Well done! 🙂
